The Florida Natural Areas Inventory is administered by Florida State University through the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center, one of the original centers within the Institute of Science and Public Affairs.
FNAI is a member of NatureServe, an international network of natural heritage programs.
FNAI was founded in 1981 by The Nature Conservancy, and we continue to collaborate with the nation's largest conservation organization.
FNAI's primary contract is through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands. We play an integral role in assessing projects and setting acquisition priorities for Florida Forever, the state's environmental land acquisition program.
