Abstract:
ARROW Hunt_areas is a polygon shapefile showing areas that are open to hunting during at least some portion of the year for selected game species on public lands that are managed for conservation purposes. It does not include lands owned by private hunt clubs.
Purpose:
This shapefile is a digital representation of public lands open to hunting during calendar year 2004. It was developed as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s ecological characterization grant to the Florida Natural Areas Inventory in 2003 for the Apalachicola River.

The list of hunting areas on public lands that are managed for conservation purposes should be complete as of September 1, 2004. However, agency rules and regulations do change from year to year so this map may not be accurate in succeeding years. Also, hunting areas owned by private clubs are not included in this file. It is also possible that there may be small parcels owned by public agencies that are open to hunting of which FNAI is not aware and which are consequently not included into this map and database.

Process_Description:
The base source for this data set was the June 2004 FNAI Managed Areas database. An Internet search was performed for web pages that would tell whether or not public hunting was allowed on for at least part of the year for at least one game species for those managed areas with a size of at least 200 acres. If those hunting criteria were met, the managed area was selected if any part of those lands fell within the seven-county ARROW region of Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Liberty, or Wakulla County. All the selected managed areas from the Managed Areas data were then exported into the new ARROW Hunt_area shapefile.
